When I first came to Dr. Jared (Kalina) in pain, in that much pain, the first thing he had to do, in order to get anything from me was to calm me down. When I walked in, I was a mess. It was really bad. In tears… So, he had to work me through that part first, then start to talk about my pain. And it was easy, so easy to talk to him.
Dr. Kalina is, I would say, a person’s person. He’s not just a doctor. You know he is a person that actually cares. He is not one of those (who) get you in 15 minutes and you are out. He is not one of those doctors. He takes time. He learns about you. He wants to know your concerns and how and what he can do to help you feel better. He even had to talk to me–because when I went in, I was in so much pain. I said, “I need a surgery on my knees.” When he finished, he explained to me, once he calmed me down, “Well, you don’t need surgery on your knees. Not right now.” And he explained everything to me. So, you know? It’s been going really, really well ever since.
As a doctor, he wants you to understand clearly what’s going on with your body. And to help with any questions about what is happened to your body, he will use his charts, and different things to help you to understand where things are located, how things are connected and why you are having the pain that you are having.
First, we tried one pain medication and we allowed about three months. Once that didn’t work, then we had to try another pain medication. So, I was on that pain medication for quite a while. Then, he introduced me to CBD. He told me to think about it. I thought about it. And once I started it, I began looking for my CBD every month on time. (smile)
This is really not like a doctor’s office. His office is like, “Ok, let me go to my buddy’s house, you know? That’s just the feel and warmth. You can feel there, they love people. And when you walk in, that’s the way you feel. You can feel it.
Of course, I would. (Laugh) Yes.
You didn’t want to get out of bed. You really… because it is so painful to do anything. Therefore, you are in a depression. You are in a deep depression. So now, instead of just pain, now you have pain and depression to deal with. So, I walked in like a basket case when I walked in to Dr. Kalina, to tell you the truth.
I use the CBD oil. One drop every morning. And you know how I have been in pain for so long, you get to a point you are willing to try about anything. But, with CBD, you don’t need that much medication. Or you may possibly come off of the pain level you are working with.

I was already ill about at 8(pain level), just to take a wiggle of a pain medication. But once I started taking CBD and of course, the next day, I just said, “Um, it’s strange.” But I said, “Thank you, lord. I am having a good day here. I didn’t think about CBD at that time. I took it with my regular routine, but it didn’t hit me there, “Ok, this makes no difference.” So you know, I journaled every day for about 2 weeks. One day, one of my friends said, “Oh my god, did you see how you went up those stairs?” “Well, nah, I just went up the stairs.” She said, “No, you all see how fast you move.” (Laugh) But now, all the time, I am up and out doing things.
(Opening her notebook) I wrote everyday what was going on then. I started, but you know how when you are getting good, you just stop. (Laugh)
I started in May of last year. I wrote down I took one drop and the time. (Reading her journal) And on the first day, no noticeable impact. The next day, I woke up and less pain, plus it was rainy and cloudy. You know when there is rain and clouds, your pain will really get rough. I even made a note of that. It rained all day. But it did not bring back the pain. Much, much less pain than usual. It was raining all that week, but my pain level was constantly down, down, down! I used to get out of bed like this (grabbing her leg and making a painful noise). Now, I just get off the bed. I wrote how I was sleeping. I started to be able to sleep at night. My energy level is really good.
I started working out, too! I had quit working out. But when my pain started going away, I started working out. Doing all right (with) my pain level and stiffness. I still have some stiffness, but it is not as bad. I don’t have to lift my leg and move it. Once you start moving around, stiffness goes away. It’s been a real nice journey. That’s why I really appreciate my doctor. And yes, I will recommend him to people and I am not going anywhere. Wherever he goes… I go.
